5 THINGS ABOUT HELEN…
I LOVE PAPER. I HAVE A STASH OF FANCY PAPERS, OF SCRATCH PAPER, REGULAR TYPING PAPER, ORIGAMI PAPER. TO USE THE PAPER, I HAVE A SHELF FULL OF ORIGAMI BOOKS AND CAN FOLD PAPER INTO ALMOST ANYTHING. I HAVE BOOKS ABOUT MAKING BOOKS AS WELL AS IDEAS FROM THE INTERNET. I TOOK A CLASS ON BOOKMAKING AND ANOTHER ON MAKING PAPER.
I COLLECT NATIVITY SETS AND HAVE OVER 950 REPRESENTATIONS OF CHRIST'S BIRTH. DURING DECEMBER MY HOUSE BECOMES A MUSEUM AND PEOPLE ARE INVITED IN TO SHARE THEM ALL.
WHILE I HAVE PUBLISHED CHILDREN'S STORIES, I HAVE OTHER WRITINGS. AUSTIN LIVING PUBLISHED MY ARTICLE ABOUT AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD-- A HUMOR PIECE. I HAVE WRITTEN A LOT OF DEVOTIONS FOR BRIDAL OR BABY SHOWERS. I AM SECRETARY FOR FRIENDS OF THE CRECHE, A NATIONAL GROUP FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE NATIVITY, AND FOR THE LADIES FLORAL CLUB HERE IN AUSTIN.
EVEN THOUGH MY HUSBAND AND 4 SONS ARE ALL BIG SPORTS FANS, I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN A GAME OR SPORT IF A GRANDCHILD IS PLAYING.
SHOPPING IS NOT MY THING, BUT I LOVE TO BROWSE IN CRAFT, ANTIQUE AND BOOK STORES. HOWEVER, IT IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE I SEE THINGS I WANT TO BUY AND I HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH OF THINGS IN EACH OF THOSE CATEGORIES RIGHT HERE IN MY HOUSE.

I Painted a Magenta Flamingo pits the imagination of a brother against the facts his sister knows about flamingos. The brother creates his fantasy world undeterred by his sister’s efforts to make him stick to reality. The sister does know her facts, so the reader will become quite knowledgeable about flamingos, too.
